| We work with people from early adolescence to senescence, and are knowledgeable
about the changing needs of individuals at different stages of their
lives. We are familiar with a very wide variety of disabilities, ranging
from mild to profound severity. Given the large number of individuals
we have seen, we have experience with relatively common conditions, as
well as with many rare syndromes that present unique combinations of
physical, mental health, and neurological challenges. Some of the disabilities
we are familiar with include:
Physical disabilities: These include disabilities resulting from a wide variety of physical injuries; from disease conditions, such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; and from developmental conditions such as cerebral palsy. We also have significant experience with individuals with sensory impairments, including those who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, and visually impaired. Mental health disabilities: We have experience in providing assessment to individuals with a wide variety of mental health conditions, including mood, anxiety, psychotic, personality, adjustment and somatoform disorders. We are familiar with the interaction of disability, pain, and psychological variables. Cognitive disabilities: We have conducted a large number of neuropsychological / vocational assessments with individuals with a wide range of acquired, degenerative, or developmental conditions that impinge upon cognitive functioning. These include medical conditions, such as multiple sclerosis, HIV infection, stroke, or epilepsy; acquired brain injury; and many degenerative or developmental neurological conditions. Learning disabilities: We focus on providing individual-specific recommendations. Our staff includes educational specialists with significant expertise in this area. We have seen individuals with a wide variety of learning disabilities, and provide learning disability assessments as both stand-alone components and as additions to psychovocational or neuropsychological assessments. Developmental disabilities: We have a great deal of experience in the assessment of individuals with developmental disabilities, including those with autism-spectrum disorders, fetal alcohol effects, and intellectual disability from a wide variety of causes. In addition to consulting to specialized employment services for individuals with developmental disabilities, we provide extensive assessment consultation to the specialized mental health teams for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health needs, as well as to Willow Clinic; we also maintain funded research involvement in Down Syndrome, early onset schizophrenia, and pervasive developmental disorders. |
