Frequently Asked Questions from Referral Sources

During this time of self-isolation or in the future for people who are not willing or able to travel, WCPS offers assessments using telehealth services.

As usual, the process begins by you phoning our office (604-730-1010) or completing our on-line referral form (click here). Our receptionist will connect with you or your client to set up appointment times.

All your client needs is access to a computer (tablet or cell phone) with a webcam and microphone, and a connection to the internet.

Once the appointment dates and times have been determined, our receptionist will email you (or your client) with instructions on what is needed for the virtual assessment.

There is no need to purchase any software or create any accounts. WCPS is currently using a free app called ‘Zoom’. Instructions on how to download that app will be included in the email to your client along with appointment times.

WCPS is more than willing to set up a trial run with your client prior to their intake appointment. This will allow your client to ensure their  computer is working as needed. It will also give your  client the opportunity to get comfortable with the process prior to their appointments.

• WCPS head office is in Vancouver at #620 – 1285 West Broadway, V6H 3X8. Our Vancouver office is easily accessible by transit. If you chose to drive, there is limited free and metered street parking as well as a pay per hour/day parkade in our building.  Parkade parking is $15/day and may be paid with debit, credit or coins (no bills).
• We also have a psychologist working out of Kelowna  at #350 – 1855 Kirschner Road, V1Y 4N7 in the Interior of BC.
• WCPS appreciates that your clients all have unique circumstances, and as such, our psychologists and psychometrists are able to travel to sites throughout BC. To date, WCPS has conducted assessments in many locations in Northern BC; the Cariboo; the Okanagan; North, South, and Mid- Vancouver island; and the Sea-to-Sky Corridor.For locations outside of our catchment areas, WCPS will organize the trip (i.e. secure office space and accommodations and make travel arrangements); our fees will reflect our usual fee, plus travel costs and a $100 per client travel fee. Note that it is most cost-effective for agencies if we are able to conduct multiple assessments in one trip.

WCPS has a very large library of psychological tests. Our psychologists typically utilize between 18 and 32 standardized tests per assessment. Areas of testing include:

• General Intellectual functioning
• Academic achievement
• Neuropsychological domains of language, attention and concentration, visuospatial abilities, sensorimotor functioning (e.g., manual dexterity, speed and strength; aspects of hearing, vision, and smell); executive functioning (e.g. problem solving, organization, planning); memory and learning
• Personality and values
• Mental health functioning
• Vocational interests
• Adaptive functioning (ability to manage daily demands in life)

• Depending on the type, an assessment can cost between $2500 and $4350.
• There is an additional travel fee for out-of-town assessments.
• The final price will be provided to the referral source prior to the first appointment. Any upgrades or additional charges must be approved by the referral source prior to the service being provided.
• Medico-legal services are billed at an hourly rate.

• If a client is unable to keep his/her appointment, we require at least 48 hours notice, otherwise it will be considered a ‘no show’ and fees may apply.
• If a client cancels with more than 48 hours notice, we will deduct the costs associated with any work done up to that point from the retainer or deposit and refund the remaining balance.
• WCPS will notify the case manager/referral agency whenever a client misses, cancels or reschedules an appointment.
• After 2 no shows or cancellations, the client will no longer be rescheduled.
• No Show fees are:
  • $200 for a missed intake or feedback appointment,
  • $400 for a missed day of testing.
• If a client chooses to discontinue the assessment, the fees are:
  • • $400 for discontinuing after an intake appointment,
    • An additional $800 for discontinuing after one day of testing.

Note – No Show fees for out-of-town assessments may vary depending on circumstances.
